Interview with toree

Today we had the opportunity to interview one of the Finnish aoe2 legends, TWP_Zuppi, also known as toree in the IRC.

Soosi: So how long have you played Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings and Conquerors?

toree: I think I've been playing for about 5 years.

Soosi: Did you have any buddies playing aoe2 when you started to play at Gamespy Arcade and Microsoft Gaming Zone? When did you hook up with Formeldahyde, PrimeLeija and Sunset?

toree: I've never played at GSA. I began to play in AsE (All seeing eye) and there I met €xclusive_SHrooM and other guys from €xclusive, they taught me little tricks and strategies and I started to get a bit better. They had IRC channel and becouse I was an addicted irc user, I went to their channel. One day Mehi (Sunset) came to your channel and invited us to play in a tournament between finnish aoc players. Around that time I met with Formeldahyde and Leija too and I began to play teamgames with them in MSN Zone.

Soosi: When did you start to play rated games at Zone?

toree: We were mostly playing in non rated rooms but I randomly played some rated games too. I think it was year 2002 or 2003. I finally reached 1700 rating with TWP_Zuppi nick few months before Zone went down, around 2005.

Soosi: What were the first strategies you used in AoK?

toree: Somebody from €xclusive taught me a 18-pop japanese tower trush which I used a lot. Later I studied some strategies and learned build orders.

Soosi: How about clans, did you form or join any clan with your buddies before you joined TWP?

toree: My first clan in my early days was €xclusive and we were an AOK clan. When €xclusive died I joined LO12DS, which was a GSA/zone clan, however I never played on GSA. I also invited Sunset to LO12DS and we were there for few years. After LO12DS died me and Sunset joined TWP in 2005 spring.

Soosi: I know you and TWP_Sunset_ still play aoe2 but what about PrimeLeija and Formeldahyde?

toree: We played together in MSN zone many years ago, however, they have both stopped playing.

Soosi: What about nooppi and Bulsu. Do you think they'll ever become famous in the Age of Empires scene?

toree: Nooppi is already very good but if he stays just playing random games with Bulsu, me and sunset without joining any clans and playing leagues/tournies, he wont. Same for Bulsu but he is a bit worse and is still learning.

Soosi: Do you have any plans for the future? Are you going to stay at TWP or are you looking for some new clans to tournament with?

toree: I'm going to stick with TWP. We have had some bad luck in leagues with scheduling because we weren't always able to bring the strongest possible team online, but I believe that with a bit of organizing we can get very good results in many leagues.
