Scout Rush Tips

Step One ~ Your Opening:

You will need to adapt to the game you are playing, but I like going 25 pop. with 4 farms. This way you can add an archery range right away. I also like to do a 25 pop start with 6-8 farms, but if you do this you won't be able to add an archery range right away. I like this strategy because you can usually get 8-10 scouts right away and then research bloodlines. That way when you attack, even if he has 2 or 3 spears at his wood camp it won't matter. Using this strategy usually involves some walling and using your 200 stone on a tower. The main thing to remember is that you will need more farms earlier if you are making scouts first.

Step Two ~ Raiding:

Scout rush

The key to this strategy is to harass your opponent's economy so that you can gain an early advantage. The thing I like about going scouts first is that when you micro properly you can get a good advantage on your opponent in most games. You need to hit him where he is most vulnerable, i.e. a far wood pit or somewhere that he doesn't have spears. Also, practice your scout micro, if he only has one spear and you have 3 or more scouts, attack it and run away with the scout the spear targets. This attack works very well and it can really mess up your opponent's game when he has to garrison vils because of 3 scouts. If you have 6+ scouts you can even take 2 spears like I do in the example game. Really work on your micro and you will learn how to deal with the spears.

Another good trick is to look at villagers' hit points, if you have already hit one villager but spears chase you off, lure that spearman in some other direction with a scout while the others hit that villager. You might take a couple of hits but it's worth it to kill that vil. If you are attacking vils and you see spearmen coming, check the hit points on the vil, if it's close to death don't run until you kill it.
